Hi, I am Wazim Mohammed Ismail. I am from Madurai, India. I am a second year Bioinformatics masters student at Indiana University - Bloomington.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the areas of Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. I have a passion for computer programming and biology. I am always fascinated by the various techniques of engineering being put to use for the better understanding of biological principles. I want to learn and explore the ways of exploiting the fast increasing biological data in order to get a complete understanding of the complexities in the cellular and molecular level of biology. I have special interests towards understanding how protein and nucleic acid sequences affect their structure, function and the interactions between and among them.
My current interests are in the field of biological sequence analysis.

Other Interests

I have a variety of hobbies starting from music, reading, painting, photography, hiking, biking and road trips. Currently, I am passionate about learning to play the flute, for which I am taking classes at the IU Jacobs School of Music for the past eight months.

Current Projects

1. Improving the performance of profile HMM based protein domain classification for short reads

2. Capturing mutation pattern into the FragGenScan gene prediction model (with Shwetha Canchi Murali)

3. Mutation Accumulation Analysis (with Heewook Lee)
